ABOUT St. Anton, Austria
Location...St. Anton, located in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps in western Austria, is easily accessible via train or auto from major international airports in Zurich, Switzerland (3-hours) and Munich, Germany (4-hours). Innsbruck, Austria is only 1.5 hours away but flights tend to be less frequent. Terrain...Can you say powder heaven? You get both quality and quantity in St. Anton am Arlberg. The region offers excellent terrain (mostly above the tree line) for all ski/snowboarding levels, including groomed pistes, expert chutes and world-class backcountry touring. The lift accessed backcountry skiing is a major draw for Arlberg and professional guides are highly recommended due to the potential avalanche dangers.
Language...German is the official language but English is spoken often by the international crowd on holiday there. Locals speak German in local Tyrolean dialect but most speak little English.
Currency...Austria is part of the European Union and recently converted to the Euro (€). Several ATMs are available in town to directly withdraw Euros. Banks are open (except Sunday) to exchange travelers checks if necessary. Visa, MasterCard and AmEx are also readily accepted. Currently, the currency exchange rate is $1 US = €.80 Euro.
