Italy Trips - Valgrisenche

Trips to Italy are based out of Valgrisenche.  Located at the foot of the Italian side of Mont Blanc, Valgrisenche is ideally located for skiing both the Italian and French Alps in the same day.   This trip is a true ski adventure that focuses on heli-skiing/boarding, ski touring over alpine glaciers and consuming fine Italian cuisine and wine -- at a significantly less price than typically found in North America.

Flügel Tours Italy trips are complete packages including helicopter fees, lodging, full board (breakfast, lunch & dinner) and mountain guides.  It is a one of a kind trip that will keep you coming back for the food as much for the skiing.

The Italian Alps are often overshadowed, literally and figuratively, by the French Alps.  Although fur clad tourists in nearby Courmayeur are more concerned with shopping for €1000 designer hand bags, the surrounding area is an unknown gem for hardcore skiers who want adventure.  Depending on weather and individual interests, the trips will combine heli-skiing in Valgrisenche and/or Monte Rosa, backcountry tours to La Palud/ Chamonix, or resort skiing in nearby Courmayeur or La Thuile.

WHERE YOU SKI/BOARD...the ski options are endless with the helicopter, cat and lift accessed backcountry from local resorts.  We utilize local, professional ski guides and instructors to find the best skiing to match the skills and desires of each client.  Valgrisenche, a quaint mountain village, is our take-off point for heli-skiing and is a stones throw (or quick flight) from France.  You will experience 4 days of breathtaking ascents by helicopter (2 flights per/day or about 4000 meters), ski/board never-ending powder fields, tour on your skins over glaciers and perhaps even repel down a canyon to France all in one descent. Or you may strap on skins and crampons in addition to your skis for daylong tour down the Valleé Blanche.

WHERE YOU SLEEP...Guests are treated to traditional Italian hospitality in Valgrisenche's quaint hotels -- and it really is la dolce vita (the sweet life).  Accommodations are European hotel style -- rooms (double occupancy) with down comforters, pillows and shared bathrooms.  The heli-ski pad is just minutes away from your bed.

WHERE YOU EAT...Continental breakfast, provided at the hotel, no doubt includes fresh bread and, lucky for us, Italian coffee (i.e., espresso or latte) to pump you up for a great day of skiing.  Each day clients will be treated to a wonderful, five course Italian cuisine and exquisite Italian wines...for lunch!  Dinner?  Just repeat lunch and you will be in heaven...just remember this one key phrase, "basta (enough) pasta."

WHERE YOU PARTY...This is the Italian Alps, not Austria.  Most partying consists of relaxing with a glass of homemade grappa (you will likely be offered one at every meal) or wine by a fire.  On those special occasions you might be asked to participate in drinking the Cuppa di Amicci (Cup of Friends), a local tradition in the D'Aosta Valley.  If you eat the grappa berries be prepared from some 'interesting' dreams.

Who should go?...While you certainly do not need to be an expert, it is generally recommend that clients are confident skiing off-piste or have previous heli-skiing experience.  Your on-site Flügel Host can help you make other plans but the remoteness of the area limits possibilities if you don't plan on skiing.  The hotel is a great place to curl up and read a book or take a short drive to Courmayeour or Aosta (both 30 minutes via car) to shop for a pair of Italian shoes.

How you get there...Geneva, Switzerland and Turin, Italy are the closest major international airports.  A van will leave from Zurich (5 hours) that you can share a ride/costs or rent a car in Turin (2 hours) and drive to Valgrisenche.

Reservations are limited and often booked well in advance by die hard skiers.  Let us introduce you to this unique section of the European Alps, while providing you a hassle-free vacation and a true alpine experience, all at a reasonable price.
